Polaris Australia to withdraw their ATV products from the Australian market

Despite its popularity, the Polaris Australia ATV range will be withdrawn from Australia from October 2020 due to new safety regulations.

Founded in 1984, Polaris has long been at the forefront of the ATV (all-terrain vehicle) market worldwide. Despite the popularity Polaris Australia has experienced, October this year will see the well-known brand exit the Australian ATV market after new safety regulations were introduced late last year.

Polaris’ decision came after Australia introduced the ‘Consumer Goods (Quad Bikes) Safety Standard 2019’ that sees a mandatory ‘Operator Protection Device’ fitted to all ATV’s sold in the country. While Polaris says the safety of their customers is of an extremely high importance to them, they believe the mandating of the proposed operator protection device was done so without reliable research and that such devices will cause as many accidents as what they will prevent.

Remaining Polaris ATV’s in stores throughout Australia will still be sold out or until October 2020 at which point they will be recalled. To show their commitment to positive safety practices in the use of off-road vehicles, Polaris has announced they will be indefinitely providing two free helmets with the sale of all their SSV (side by side vehicle) sales Australia wide. Said SSV’s will also be the new focus of their involvement in the Australian off road vehicle market.

Both Polaris, and general sales Australia wide of ATV’s, show a steady decrease in popularity over the last decade. In turn, also in both Polaris and general sales Australia wide a steady increase in the popularity of SSV’s in the last decade can be seen. This emerging trend in off road vehicles in part, contributed to Polaris’ decision to no longer pursue their ATV range in Australia.

The good news for Polaris enthusiasts is that they will continue to manufacture and supply their SSV’s and existing products Australia wide.
